Modern Walnut Bench

The Modern Bench measures 46" long, 18" wide, and 20" high. Its design was created to elegantly reveal the hidden chaos and complexity found within a tree beneath its surface. The seat is crafted from the intersection and union of the tree’s two main trunks, commonly referred to as the “crotch.” From this perspective, the intricate grain patterns become visible, revealing the natural complexity required to bind the two trunks together and withstand the tremendous forces created by heavy winds. Within these patterns, bark inclusions can also be seen—much like natural splinters that become encapsulated within the tree as the two trunks grow and develop together. The organic complexity of the wood is balanced by the bench’s refined form, featuring graceful curved lines and elegantly tapered, round legs. The result is a piece that celebrates both the unpredictable beauty of nature and the intentional simplicity of modern design
